Don’t Fear the Cloud

5/17/2012- Votacall Hosted VoIP & Cloud Based UC Solutions – Innovation is an interesting animal that can easily be stunted by fear.  Any organization is susceptible to comfort zone thinking which can literally be false hope that their way is the right way, look no further.  Large scale organizations can believe that their way of doing business drives the market, so why risk the present environment, money, marketshare and resources to change (Remember in the 80′s that large computer manufacturer that couldnt see the vision of a young developer and turned down his proposal to purchase his idea…).  SMB organizations fear disruption to day to day business, they fear the draining of resources which already have a maxed out work load and they worry that there is an inability to adapt to something new within their customer base and organizational chart.  These are all valid concerns and should not be taken lightly because in the SMB world time, resources, a single customer and the organizational message are so valuable that one misstep can bring a strong SMB down.  However, fear cannot supercede change.  An organizations fears should be acknowledged, discussed and understood to advance appropriately.   The Cloud, specifically Hosted VoIP has exposed the fears of many Carriers, Manufacturers and VARs which has lead to an unwillingness to truly be innovative.  Hosted VoIP is destroying business models that have been in place for decades.  Hosted VoIP and VoIP Phone Systems in general have kicked the dust off of what was once a stagnant industry.  VoIP has changed the conversation.  Customer discovery sessions now include discussions on Business Continuity, fixed mobile convergence and innovation paths.  VoIP gave birth to terms like Unified Communications and Collaboration which are alot sexier topics than Digital vs analog.  These are exciting times in technology and communications, but they will only be exciting if you check your fears at the door.

Behold the Power of the Cloud

5/15/2012 – Votacall Hosted VoIP – Boston, Massachusetts – Behold the power of the Cloud. In our everyday existence the Cloud has made us faster, more productive, accessibe, knowledgeable…it has made us better.  The birth of the Cloud starts with the BIG BANG of real bandwidth that is clean and affordable.  That bandwidth has provided a platform for Cloud technologies which is advancing our ability to communicate, to access, to grow, change and adapt at a rapid pace.  It is taking over leaving the hardware model in ruins.  Reuven Cohen, a contributor at Forbes, has hit the nail on the head and believes that the Cloud is the disruptive technology that is omnipresent and if we stop to evaluate how we conduct ourselves on a daily basis it would prove the point that “The Cloud is Eating the World”.

What’s your Value Proposition in the Cloud

5/11/12 – Votacall Hosted VoIP – Boston, Massachusetts – The more and more we hear about and use Cloud technology in our personal and professional lives, the susceptible the technology is to the piling on of players trying to add an alternative revenue stream.  There is definitely blood in the water and teh sharks are no longer circling, they are attacking.  The Cloud’s youngest son, VoIP has been affected the most by this.  We have seen large traditional  traditional telecom hardware companies scramble to get a Hosted VoIP PBX play either through acquisition or reverse engineering of exisiting products (which is scary) and we have all been exposed to every Carrier presenting presenting (most times half-heartedly) their Hosted VoIP solution.  With all of these players entering the market, saturating the market and confusing the market, it is clear that the Value Proposition is the key to success in the VoIP space.  More than half of the players are just trying to stabalize a declining market share and have no real commitment on the innovation and customer experience side of the Cloud.  They just want to be LOW price on paper.  That is the beginning of commoditization of VoIP and although it is a scary reality, it is a reality nonetheless.  Regardless, Voice has always been the tricky animal that IT guys hated and Carriers left vanilla.  Voice simply is not simple.  Anyone with exposure to telecom will agree.  Today, customers are more demanding than ever and with higher expectations comes a responsibility to deliver.  That is where a VoIP Provider’s Value Proposition comes in.  If the Value Proposition is in line with exceeding expectations through constant innovation and evolution, you may have found the Business Class mVoIP Carrier and Managed Service Provider that will change your business.  Remember, with the Cloud and Voice over IP, this should be the last telecommunications decision you should ever have to make.  So, for the moment, disregard the price and listen for the value becasue it will make all of the difference in the long run.

I want it now technology

5/9/12 – Votacall Hosted VoIP – Boston, Massachusetts - The other night I was watching some television show with an annoyingly aggresive laugh track when I realized my wife was no longer my terrible television companion and she had not been for some time.  I went upstairs to get ready for bed and there she was, in bed and reading a book.  Actually she was reading a book on her ipad.  I brushed my teeth and went to bed thinking nothing of it.  The next morning I woke up took a shower, brushed my teeth, got dressed etc. and when I went in the bedroom to say goodbye to my wife and two girls, I noticed that all three were glued to my wife’s ipad playing some learning game.  That night I came hoome, we did the routine…dinner, bath, stories, bed for the girls.  I went downstairs to veg and my wife did not folllow.  I went back upstairs and she was reading her ipad.  I asked her if she was reading more lately to which she responded “yes”.  Whe I asked why, I got the answer anyone involved in Cloud and Hosted VoIP technology loves to hear.  She said that when friends recomend books, she downloads them immediatley and she is off and running whereas before she had to make a real effort to get to a book store to buy the book or remember to buy it online, but in both instances the desire to access can fade fast.  She said, “it is all about access”.  It made me think about our generation’s ability to adopt technology if it is convenient.  It also made me flash back to my wife and daughters on the ipad at 7:00 AM playing around.  They are going to devour technology personally and professionally…and with BYOD the words will blend together and it will be the technology that provides efficient, always on access that will win the war.  The generations coming up will dictate the market and the market will be total adoption of anything Cloud Based which includes Hosted VoIP.  To further my point, I read today that Orangutans are using iPads to communicate.  No sign language, grunts or groans, but ipads.  If animals are adopting efficient communication tools, it is only a matter of time that all humans do as well.  I wonder if they have any good book recommendations for my wife?

Innovation

5/4/12 – Votacall Hosted VoIP – Boston, Massachusetts – I have to say that I truly enjoy reading the Harvard Business Review Blog, those guys hit a home run with every post.  The reason why I say this, is because it was their blog that inspired this one.  Being in the Hosted VoIP world, I must look and research innovations in the telecommunications industry to best position our cloud offers.  Innovation is interesting in that it can be extremely gratifying as well as maddening.  You could be on the cutting edge one moment and behind the next.  The communications world is bursting with innovation and any VoIP PBX provider will state that it is a challenge to keep up.  The more access to the latest and greatest will create more competition, but the Hosted VoIP Provider that has a clear innovation path and stays the course will prevent the commoditization of VoIP (or at least delay it) through value.  One day innovation is your best friend and the next your Darth Vader, but it sure is exciting.  Now the Harvard Business Review Blog:
